Verdin Property know that the Costa del Sol is one of the most popular destinations in Europe amongst golf lovers, even if it’s not our personal cup of tea!
Andalucia is the Spanish region with the most golf courses, totaling nearly 120, of which the Costa del Sol, which stretches from the beautiful town Nerja right the way down to the millionaire playground of Sotogrande, is home to 74.
Valderrama is one of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol, and it has been named the best golf course in Spain and Europe on numerous occasions.
The ‘Costa del Golf’ has hosted major international tournaments such as the Ryder Cup, the Volvo Masters, the AmEx World Championships, the Volvo World Match Play Championships, the World Cup of Golf, the Spanish Open and the Andalusia Masters.
Some of the most prestigious architects have applied their knowledge and skills to the Costa del Sol’s golf courses. The American Robert Trent Jones designed courses such as Valderrama, Real Club de Sotogrande, Las Brisas and Los Naranjos. Other internationally renowned architects include Javier Arana, Tom Simpson, Perry Dye, Dave Thomas and Cabell B. Robinson, all of whom have left their mark on the Costa del Sol, as have legendary golfers like Gary Player and Seve Ballesteros.
Finca Cortesin is globally renowned for providing one of Europe’s most unforgettable golf experiences. Rated among Spain’s best golf courses, including by the prestigious Golf Digest magazine, the harmonious relationship between the natural Mediterranean landscape and environment on the resort’s world-class 18-hole championship course make for a most attractive design, while the excellent weather we enjoy all year round provides the perfect setting for playing golf.
Finca Cortesin has also hosted numerous high profile events including the Volvo World Match Play Championship on three occasions, one of the world’s most prestigious professional golf tournaments and will also be home of the Solheim Cup in 2023.
Carved into the hillside with stunning vistas down to the Mediterranean Sea and up to the Andalusian hills, the 18-hole championship course of La Reserva was designed by acclaimed golf course architect Cabell B. Robinson.
Opened in 2003, with wide, sweeping fairways that lead on to large greens, gentle but challenging undulations, and a birds’ nest location high up on the escarpment, it has fast become a must-play for any golfer visiting southern Spain – and a fitting next chapter in Sotogrande’s proud golfing legacy. La Reserva Club is ranked both our resort and golf course among the 12 best in Spain by the prestigious Golf World Magazine.
Located just 15 minutes from Marbella, La Zagaleta is an ultra exclusive members only club. However it’s more than deserving of a place on our list.
With 36 Parkland holes, the Old and the New course in La Zagaleta settle in an astonishing background of Mediterranean forests with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, Africa and Gibraltar.
Both courses offer a dynamic design of doglegs, going either left or right, where hitting the fairways off the tee becomes vital in order to attack small but undulated greens from mid to short range. They are not long courses but they are very technical where a risk/reward strategy is present in many of its holes.
The peace, tranquility and silence is only broken occasionally by the sighting of a pheasant, a deer, buck or mouflon, all permanent residents in La Zagaleta.
So there we have it!
